Geocache Description:

Quick park and grab - once you find a way to get there!

On Feb. 19, 1988 at approximately 9:26pm, American Eagle flight 3378 crashed in foggy and drizzly conditions shortly after takeoff from RDU airport, killing all 10 passengers and both crew members on board. It was the first fatal crash of a commercial plane at RDU and remains the second-deadliest crash at RDU. (American Eagle flight 3379 - an almost identical flight number! - crashed while attempting to land - also in the dark, rain, and fog - on December 13, 1994 killing 15 and seriously injuring 5 others). For more details of the flight 3378 crash, see this summary (written after the later crash) or the full report.

This cache is placed near the site of the flight 3378 crash. (The coordinates listed in the crash report don't match with the description of the crash site, so I can't be certain of the exact location, but it's almost certainly within a few hundred feet of the cache.)
