This cache is located on private property with the owner's permission and is a Schwan's ice cream container. You can park nearby and walk the 100 feet to the cache location. You probably will encounter some stickers if you go during the growing season. Please remember that Highway 12 is a busy road so keep a close eye on any children and pets. Also, please be careful when pulling away from the cache location as there is a nearby blind corner.
The grove of locust trees where the cache is located is the site of the original Page Place, that is, it was owned by the Page family. According to Metsker's Atlas of Columbia County in 1933 a Jno. D. Page owned 1/2 of section 8 where the cache is and also the NW 1/4 of nearby section 17, both in T11N, R39E. There was an old house that was located in the general location of the locust trees. Prior to the time my parents moved into the area in the mid-1960s the house was moved up a nearby canyon just to the northeast of the trees. If you were travelling to Dayton you just passed the road on your right, where the old house is located. You can probably see the dirt road entrance from where you parked your car. It's an old farm road that is used sparingly now and is on private property. Please don't go up it. When the house was moved about a mile up the canyon the Page family had to do some rock blasting and when they were all done with the blasting caps they put them under the SW corner of the house foundation in the concrete. My dad was warned by an Edgar Page, presumably Jno. D. Page's son, to be careful if the house was ever to be knocked down by bulldozer because of these blasting caps. The house is now falling down and is generally overrun with weeds, trees, etc. In the future I will try to post some pictures of what the house looks like now.
Original cache contents include several articles of Seattle Mariner's memorabilia (kid's t-shirt, coin, magnets), a TB of mine, and several other odds and ends. Good luck. I hope you enjoy the cache and the history lesson.
