Located beside a spire, 83 meters above the beautiful Rio Chavón(the river is 80m down, so, the cache would be 3m up).
Our first placed cache ever and we went international!!! While on vacation in the Dominican Republic we placed this cache during one of the excursions we went on. The terrain is very easy, stone pavers, but the cache is located inside a tourist attraction, so there will be expenses involved(tours, admissions, etc.). The Altos de Chevon is the biggest attraction in La Romana. It is a recreation of a medieval European village built by a former Paramount Studios set designer and Charles Bluhdorn. Narrow, cobble-covered alleyways lined with lanterns and limestone walls, it is a must to explore. There are fountains, restaurants, shops, galleries(exhibiting the talents of students from the on-site design school), museum of archaeology, the St. Stanislaus Church, a Roman-styled 5,000-seat amphitheater and the Génesis nightclub. Altos de Chavón overlooks Rio Chavón and the Dye Fore golf course of the nearby Casa de Campo resort. The river, and bordering jungles, can be viewed in such films as Apocalypse Now and Rambo.
The cache is a black painted play dough container in a ziplock bag. It's hidden well out of sight but fairly easily within reach. Sound easy? You will need the ability to boost yourself up (climb) a small ways to reach the cache. There are plenty of places to put your feet and the tree limb above is good and strong. Protected from view by the fountain itself simply stand atop the "bench", grab the tree limb with one hand, place your foot solidly in one of the gaps and pull yourself up and reach over the limb and you should feel the cache. Small children would be very helpful, they could reach it easily if lifted over your head, so make it a family adventure. It contains a log, pencil and a few small traders, mostly representing our area, like key chains, a golf ball, a hockey card(eh!), a canadien coin and a bridge token, etc.. We would like to see this one develop into a diverse multi-cultural cache, so please use traders representing your area. Hopefully, we will make it back someday!!!! Enjoy the area, send us pictures and happy travels!!!
