Geocache Description:

FTF prize is a Great Bay Discovery Center led kayak trip for two. Cache is located on the Great Bay Discovery Center property, but on other side of railroad tracks. Park in Discovery Center parking lot. Discovery Center is open May-Sept and weekends in Oct. 10-4. Quick Find. Seek other caches on Discovery Center property.

***This cache is best done in the winter or before poison ivy has leafed-out because there is a lot of it!!***

We thought it was worth sharing because of the historical value of the site. Cache is located near the grave site and homestead of Captain Thomas Wiggin (1592-1667), often known as Governor Thomas Wiggin. He was the first governor of the Upper Plantation of New Hampshire which eventually became the Royal Province of New Hampshire in 1741.
There are still many relatives of Gov. Thomas Wiggin in and around Stratham. Some still come to visit his grave. In the "History of Stratham" book by Charles M. Nelson there is a whole section on the Stratham Wiggins' (as they were some of the first in Stratham) and he states that, "Had they named Stratham Wigginsville, it would not have been improperly named."
This cache was placed with the help of Bayventure program participants during a "Winter Geocaching Journey" class.
Due to some clearing that was done to aid in accessibility to the historical site, the cache has been relocated a short distance away from the original placement. It is closer to the stone wall, but you can still see the gravestone.
