Geocache Description:

The former Ace of Diamonds property on Belt Line Road along the Rock River, boasts a 6.2-acre site and is the former home of a softball field and a restaurant lounge. The building was demolished years ago but the field’s fences remain.

The site has side-by-side boat ramps — a 15-foot-wide concrete ramp, which needs repairs, and a 10-foot-wide asphalt ramp. Area boaters still use the ramps.

“That seems to be a very popular sport-fishing boat launch,” said Tom Hartley, the forest preserve district’s development director. “We thought it to be an appropriate role of the forest preserve to maintain that kind of facility so the public can have access to the river.”

The forest preserve district would improve the boat ramps, beautify the grounds and add a small picnic area, Hartley said. It also could become a trailhead for a possible bike trail in the area.

Hartley said the district has a couple of options: walk away from the plan, or obtain the land through use of eminent domain.

“Or maybe the owner will change his mind, and we can come to some agreement on the price,” Hartley said.
