Stinky Point! This is where the Fond du Lac River meets Lake Winnebago. There are a few stories about how it got it's name.
It could be that the Native American tribes that lived here were called "Winnebegoug", which means "dirty water people".The shallow depth of the lake causes an accumulation of algae which gives rise to the name.
It could be that early settlers would dump their refuse here, which in hot summer monthes... well, you get the picture.
Or it could be that the water treatment facility for the City of Fond du Lac is just upstream from here?
Whatever the reason for the name, you will enjoy the view to the north of this beautiful lake.
