La côte a bien changé au fil des temps: durant le premier
millénaire, cet endroit était une île, alors qu'une voie romaine
permettait de relier à pied sec le site où se situe maintenant le
phare de Cordouan depuis la région de Soulac qui possédait à
l'époque un port sur la Gironde et non sur l'Atlantique dont le
rivage était beaucoup plus à l'ouest.
