Bluestone in the buff Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

JoesBar: Almost seven years. I've decided that has been a good run. I don't like to see a full sized cache go away, but this one hasn't been found in some time. So I figure it's time. I hope those that visited enjoyed the cache.

Geocache Description:

First, the ground rules:
  1. DO NOT park at the church or school parking lots south of the cache. You should park at the public area in Quarry Park South. 41° 32.151 N, 081° 31.855 W.
  2. You have two approaches from the parking area; 1) Right behind the soccer goal is a gate. It isn't locked. 2) Walk up the sidewalk to where the fence ends.
  3. Please cover the cache completely. There is plenty of natural material here to use for that purpose.

Now about the cache:

During the last quarter of the 19th century and the first quarter of the 20th century, this area was a rock quarry. Euclid Bluestone was the rock quarried here. Bluestone was quarried from many locations around the east and southeast sides of Cleveland, from Lakeview Cemetery to Independence. This area was probably the Maxwell / Malone Quarry.

The lip of Mill Creek Falls in Cleveland is Bluestone. See this Earthcache: Falling for you at Mill Creek

Euclid Bluestone is part of the Bedford Formation. It was formed during the Devonian Period, 405 to 345 million years ago.
The rock was used extensively for sidewalks. You can still find many in the Heights area. It was also used for exterior steps, foundations of homes, and even billiard tables. A few local buildings are faced with Bluestone. Notably, Old Euclid City Hall, 605 E. 222 St., Squire's Castle in North Chagrin Reservation of the Metroparks, and a few buildings at Lakeview Cemetery.
What you will see here is Bluestone in it's natural state, or "in the buff."

You seek a .30 cal. Ammo can.
