Geocache Description:

The cache is not at the above location. Answer the obscure local history questions to find the cache. Cache was meant to be in Beacon Hill Park but I couldn't find a hide I liked so it is 6.5 miles away.

Also please note that this cache started out as a regular and has been getting progressively smaller. It has now gone missing three times so in its 4th incarnation it has turned into a mirco.

As a child my Dad listened to the hourly news bulletins about this swimmer's crossing and went down to be among the 300,000 people who welcomed her to shore. There is a hawthorn tree planted by Sir _________ ____________ (h) in Mayors Grove, Beacon Hill Park, in 1929. He was a British Prime Minster.

The park contains the “World’s Tallest Totem Pole,” that is to say the tallest free-standing totem carved from one tree. The 127 foot 7 inch totem pole was carved from a single cedar log by Chief Mungo Martin, noted Kwakiutl (Kwakwaka’wakw) carver, with a team including his sons David and Henry Hunt. It was erected in the southeast corner Beacon Hill Park 1956. In 2001 it was deemed “rotten beyond repair” according to the Times Colonist but it has since been restored.
