The Cushman Substation building remains as a
monument to the grand buildings that were used in the early days of
Tacoma Washington for the delivery of electricity to the local
community.
This building remains as a grand reminder of
our early electrical services. The City of Tacoma and Tacoma Power
may use this building for storage or other utility related uses
now, but the exterior is not maintained well, as observable by view
of the building entry steps, entry lamp posts with missing lens,
and rusting white post, but this building appears to be durable
without much external care given.
It might even be listed on a historical site
registry, but I was not able to determine its real history and
current preservation status.Cushman
Substation is a reminder of past electrical utility service grand
but now just a historic building.
My opinion is, this
building should be preserved for future citizens to understand and
appreciate what detail and effort our early City of Tacoma citizens
accomplished; as a result, just for delivery of electricity to the
comunity and it appears the city did
want this building structure to last a long time.
