Geocache Description:

This is a small de-con container. Could hold a coin or small items...

After Caching in the nearby area we decided to explore this neat area...Skull Valley. Here years ago a great town was established by the L.D.S. Church. It is named Iosepa after Joseph F. Smith, 6th Presidesnt of the church. Joseph went on a mission for the church to the Hawaiian Islands....several converts gathered and came to Zion....about 50 members left Salt Lake City via Garfield train, then 20 wagons to Grantsville, spent the night there arriving in Iosepa August 28, 1889. The town square originally started with 169 acres. All the streets had Hawaiian names. The original purchase consisted of 1,920 acres, 200 under cultivation the next two years acculmulated to 5,273 acres. The water came from 5 streams, collected in an open ditch, run into a concrete conduit that furnished culinary water to each home. A fire hydrant and irrigation ditch went with each lot. Thus leaving a great history....The cemetery is located about a mile northeast of the actual settlement. This cache is at the turn off at mile marker 23 on state road 196. About 15 miles south of I 80. There is great history here. Enjoy the 3 Historical Markers that remain at the settlement and cemetery location. History tells in the most recent years there is a memorial day celebration here, where many gather in honor of those great Polynesian pioneers.
