A short Cliff top walk of less than 2 miles
This is my first cache, I plan to base my hides on supernatural, ghostly or locations with folklore connections around Dorset. The Roy Dog Cache is a micro cache containing a logbook & pencil. There is no room for trackables or swag
The Roy dog is a supernatural large black dog (tall as a man) said to lurk near cave hole in stormy weatherand may attack unwary passers bye (& geocachers) It has one red and one green eye and it's mane is decorated with the eyes of its victims. It is said to live in the watery depths and drags its victims down into the water. Interestingly there can often be seen a large sea lion swimming near the caves (I wonder...)
This is a popular area with walkers and if you find a nice position as the cliffs go in & out you can view into some of the caves. One can even be explored at low tide with a bit
of paddling. In the summer its a nice area to walk and listen to the larks twittering. The going is generally flat hard packed tracks but can get soggy . There is a bit of a
rocky decent to the final cache, which is not sutable for wheelchairs & mountain bikes may have to be pushed back up again!
The obvious starting points are the car park at portland bill or the pub(for customers) and the trail follows the cliff paths. You could combine the trip with Nubble's 'Portland
Bill' Cache quite easily.
The co-ordinates of the starting point take you to 'cave hole' (Beast permitting! ) and clues there lead you to the cache location.
The Clues
Number of rocks = a
Number of rails = b
Nuber of holes in the 9th rail = c
Final location ...
N 50 (a+b-c) . 37(a+1)
W 002 c(a-2) . 5b
