American Idol began in June 2002 and quickly became an icon of pop culture in the USA.
The auditions are especially entertaining as hopeful contestants are screened for singing talent, human interest or humorous potential. Tens of thousands line up at the auditions which are held across the USA all hoping to hear from the judges
