Geocache Description:

Until recently, surveying depended upon measuring angles and distances from known points (called intersection stations.)

Intersection stations were usually tall buildings, towers or anything with a known location that could be seen from a distance. Only three known intersection stations are needed to compute a position using a procedure known as "resection". Using this method the angle between the left and center intersection is measured and also the angle between the center and right intersection stations. The output is the position of the unknown point where the angles were measured.

We were walking along the Hudson River waterfront in Edgewater when we noticed a few intersection stations across the river. We looked a bit more carefully, and found eight intersection stations! (We are sure that there are more visible from this spot.) We carefully measured the angles to each of the eight. They are as follows:
KU3940 Jeffreys Hook Lighthouse 032º 28’ 01.5”
KU4017 New York Presby Hosp Flag 043º 33’ 37.5”
KU3973 Highbridge 1898 047º 43’ 55.9”
KU4009 Manhattan Grants Tomb Dome 070º 10’ 19.8”
KU4022 Manhattan Riverside Bap Ch Twr 075º 37’ 13.9”
KU3959 Manhattan Soldiers Sailors Mon 170º 27’ 43.6”
KU3994 Chrysler Building 174º 31’ 25.9”
KU3602 Empire State Building 182º 19’ 17.0”
Find the spot at which those intersection stations can be seen at those angles, and you have found the cache location.
