Geocache Description:

Visit the World's largest stone circle in the heart of historic Wiltshire (home of crop circles and Stonehenge). This cache is suitable for children of all ages.

This cache is in a very unique location near the magnificent Avebury Stone Circle which surrounds the whole village. Constructed around 2600BC the Stones of Avebury have been designated a world heritage site, there is more information at this web site.

A National Trust shop, restaurant and archaeological museum can be found in the village centre. The pubs are good too!

This cache was our first, set in September 2001. It was the first ever cache in Wiltshire, and is now the 3rd oldest Virtual and 28th oldest cache in the UK. It was originally a physical cache but was stolen after a year of service so converted to virtual. We have set many more since, but this remains a special place for us. This was the site of the Faulkner's Stone Circle, of which there is sadly little left. However, it does offer the opportunity of somewhere quiet away from the crowds.

In order to claim this cache, mail us the number of large stones at the coordinates (not the number visible in the distance). The answer is surprising. Mail the answer through our profile at the top of the page (ticking the option to release your email address so that we can reply):

Under no circumstances should you post the answers in your log or post photographs of the answer. You must physically visit these exact coordinates in order to log this cache, please do not abuse this requirement (I regret that I will have to delete logs that do not meet these requirements). When you email the answer then please remember to release your email address to enable us to reply.
