Geocache Description:

Accuracy at time of placing 8 feet

The cache is located near the Village of Harris,Sask. Like many of the town's and villages West of Saskatoon,Harris had it's beginings in the early 1900's. Richard Elford Harris whose family ran the "Harris Stopping Place", and from whom the village received it's name, pulled up stakes in Morden, Man. and headed West in the summer of 1904. Mr. & Mrs. Harris and their 2 sons headed west of Saskatoon to a point 2 miles North of the present site of Harris. As settler's flocked into the district their home was soon known far and wide as the "Harris Stopping Place". Mr. Harris became the 1st postmaster at an office granted to him.Over the years Harris became known for it's Great "RUBY RUSH" of 1914. Hundreds of prospectors and miner's flocked to the area to try to "Strike it Rich".All for nothing as the Rubies were really GARNET. Harris still hold's Ruby Rush Days each year in July and recreates the Ruby Rush.More recently Harris became known for it's play "The Pull Of The Land"written by Beth Robertson and Elaine Kowpak. They wanted to put on a play for a week in the summer of 2003 for the locals--but after more than 60 sold out performances in front of over 25,000 people and 4 of these performaces at Saskatoons TCU Place they have now written a Sequel--"The Pull Of The Land--The Sequel"
The sequel opened in the Spring of 2007 and demand is now mounting for more performances around the province.
If you have not yet seen this play IT is well worth your time.Make plans to do so.Also stop by the Harris Museum to See many artifacts of the area, Also see the Crystal Beach CNR Water Tower moved in from it's original Crystal Beach site.
