Geocache Description:

A pleasant walk in the canal centre woods

Park at the Basingstoke Canal Visitor Centre in Mytchett (N 51°17.250' W000°43.232').

Directions and details of canal centre facilities are available at
www.basingstoke-canal.co.uk

There is a good playground and the shop sells refreshments.

You can park in the canal centre car park or drive into the camping/event field. Beware! The white barrier to the camping field opens at 9.00am and closes at 4.45pm every day (these are summer hours - winter hours differ).

Start following the arrow after you've gone through the gate into the woods from the camping/event field. From the main car park walk along the rear of the canal centre and then turn right when you get to the field. The gate is at the top of the slope. The coordinates given will take you to a clue. You will need the number (A) next to the J on the small green sign (on a tree) for the final coordinates, which are:

N 51°17.(A-1)80'
W 000°42.A30'

The cache was established on 14 April 2008 (in a 3 litre plastic food container) with a lottery scratch card, parachute men, bouncy balls, glittery mirrors, Match Attax and a TB.

Please note:
although this is open access land, the Ministry of Defence occasionally uses it for army training. The soldiers are usually friendly and will wave you on or give instructions (adds to the excitement), but there is no problem with you being there. Thanks (and apologies) to Woking Wonders for raising this as an issue (see log dated 15 April 2008).
