Start your 4.5 km return hike by parking your car at N42 32.924 E018 42.691. On your way upward, following the red and white markers on the rocks, you will pass the first of two fortresses built by the soldiers and stonemasons of the Austro-Hungarian empire to protect the Boka area from attack shortly after the second of a pair of uprisings in the later half of the 19th Century. You will journey upward through lovely scenery with great views over the Boka Kotorska and if the weather is clear, you should be able to see the two famous islands of "Gospa od Skrpela" and "St George". After passing by the first fortress, you will see on the route, a 10 minute diversion marker to the upper fortress, called "Ober". It is there that you may be lucky enough to find the cache. Please ensure it is left well hidden after your visit so it cannot be spotted by muggles. And don't give away the secret of when the fort was built - just tell "The Montenegro Geocachers! Please support "CACHE IN - TRASH OUT" to make Montenegro a clean environment.
If you enjoyed this cache and want to learn more about these fortresses, check out "The Austro-Hungarian Fortresses of Montenegro - A Hikers Guide" This is available from Amazon Books, "So Bookstore" in Herceg Novi or the "Forza Souvenir Shop" by the main gate in Kotor.
If you already have a copy, please post a photo holding it near the fortress!
