Cache is situated on the eastern headland prior to descending down to the beach (if coming from Stakpole Quay) - easy to find although the approach to it is slightly rugged.
This Cache is placed to mark the passing of Mrs Crazys 40th Birthday and is our second Cache and, like our first one, it's at one of our favourite beaches!
Barafundle Bay is undoubtedly one of the most delightful beaches in the UK. The clean golden sand and unspoilt clear water in this isolated hideaway give it a feeling of paradise. Barafundle can be accessed by the cliff path from Stackpole Quay (a third of a mile walk), followed by steep walk down to the beach (These are steep steps up and down, it's fairly rugged but it's well within most peoples' capabilities). At Stackpole Quay there is ample car parking (run by National Trust, currently £3.00 Charge), café facilities and toilets.
Alternatively there is a route from inland of the beach via the Bosherston Lakes, also known as the Lily Ponds. They were created in the 18th century by the damming of three narrow valleys. The lakes are managed as a National Nature Reserve with clear waters due to underground springs.
The beach drops steeply into the sea, so it's good for swimming and when the tide is out there are caves to explore. The beach is no stranger to accolades, in 2004 The Good Holiday Guide chose Barafundle as the best beach in Britain and in the same year it was named in the top 12 beaches in the world. From the middle of the bay there is a full view of Caldey Island. According to Country Life magazine it is the perfect location for eating outdoors. The beach is managed by the National Trust.
