Geocache Description:

This is one of a series of caches hidden along Fisherman’s Lane, which runs between the villages of Aldermaston and Padworth. Each cache contains part co-ordinates for a final cache called ‘Great Fishers’.

Just beyond the weir is a salmon fish ladder; this is one of 17 ladders sponsored by the Kennet Millennium Salmon Pass Project to help re-establish the salmon population on the River Thames and tributaries. In 1830, salmon died out on the Thames as pollution in London and building of weirs prevented them from reaching their breeding grounds. With improvements in water quality, adult salmon now return to the River Thames every year.

Recommended parking is at the start of Fisherman’s Lane in Aldermaston, opposite The Hind’s Head Public House. There is limited parking at the end of Fisherman’s Lane but I wouldn’t recommend this unless you drive a 4x4. Some of the series may also be accessed from Mill Lane.
