Located at a old but newly re-discovered cemetery in Aurora Ohio.
Welcome to the newest addition to Aurora's cemeteries. This little gem is home to only two maybe three residents that we know of, but is certainly worth the visit.
Aurora just recently acquired the property and is currently in the process of cleaning it up and making it official with a driveway and all! Honestly I wish they kept it more low profile(asphalt ruins the mystery).
This cemetery was so unknown that the director at the historical Society didn't know it existed. Only those who spend their time reading dusty old books and maps (like me) had an idea that something was there. Giles was the name given this spot by some record keeper, however due to the diligent work of an area history expert (Not me, he confirmed my own searches) this name may not be appropriate. The original land owner was not a Giles it may have been a Seward. The Giles family settled on the other side of SR 43, Geauga Lake was once Giles Pond. So who's name should be placed on this spot....what will be the name of this cemetery when completed...Does Sasquatch really exist??????? It's too early to tell but if you email me I will fill you in with the details.
Heres resident data:
There are three bases, the stones were found broken on ground.
Joel Seward, a Revolutionary War Vet(1733-1826) was the first known burial on this site.
Grave 1: young Norris Giles son of Daniel and Eliza Giles died July 22, 1850 age 11.
Grave 2: Alexander Bolton, died 1863 at age 80.
Remember to be out before dark.
-There is only a small rough driveway, park along the street to ensure you don’t get stuck!
12/29 Update- The new Seward-Giles cemetery was completed this summer. The improvements include a nice bridge and several benches. Overall I think Aurora did a good job making this cemetery still feel small and secluded.
Cache is a 35mm film canister, Bring a Pen!
