Welcome to the Ex-Odeon Drive-In Theatre. This theatre was opened in 1964 and was slated for closing in 2005. A petition, containing 11,000 names, was put together at that time asking the company to keep the theatre operating. Cineplex Odeon reversed their decision to close that year, but alas the 11,000 signatories did not put their money where their mouth was, and after 2 more years of losses the inevitable has occured.This week it was formally announced that the Odeon Drive-In in Headingley would not open this year. I can't say I was a strong supporting patron, but the experience was fun, and it is a bit of the history of the 'silver screen' that is now gone from the Winnipeg area. The cache is a magnetic key holder that contains only a logbook, and of course an FTF certificate. Bring your own writing tool. This won't be a hard find, so during your stop, enjoy the geese that nest at the marsh between the highway and the screen.For those of you who still want the drive-in theatre experience, I understand there are still three left in Manitoba. The closest is on the west side of the town of Morden. (Located near cache GCPYFJ Evergreens)
