Geocache Description:

Traditional cache in a lock & lock box, down a tarmac and gravel path, then a grassy track for a short distance.

Stour Provost “Lucky-Dip”Stour valley way no.4

Park in the village for this one, the same as no3 in the series. N50 59.574 W002 17.754 This is a straight cache in a small lock'n'lock box, in a camo bag. From car – to – cache – to - car is about half a mile. The last little bit can be a bit sticky in wet weather, but it would still be possible for kiddies buggies and wheelchair users to do.
There are no gates to go through, or stiles to get over.
On the way to the cache, if you look over the gardens on your left you can see the river Stour, and the loop in the river called “Lucky-Dip”. Years ago, big bags of fish were caught from that area of the river when they had their winter fishing matches. After a few matches, with the winners coming from that section, if a fisherman drew the peg number for that stretch, they were said to have had the Lucky Dip. And from then on, it became known as “Lucky-Dip”. Matches are still fished here on cold frosty mornings in winter, and fishermen can be seen huddling over rods with ice on them, with flasks of hot coffee or soup at their feet…….
