Fear not - or should
you?
Most people have both rational and
irrational fears - fear of death, close spaces, spiders, snakes,
mice. The list goes on and on. Geocaching sometimes
forces one to confront those fears. This little series is no
exception.
Now I'm not saying that you'll
have to climb down into a pit of vipers or scale the face of a
cliff ... but you might.
Nor am I saying that poisonous
arachnids, insects or other nasty little vermin will be lurking
nearby ... but they could be.
What is hiding in that
hole?
What or whom do YOU
fear?

Number seven in the series will
make you walk on water.
Go west from the dam on the
Lakeside Trail towards the initial coordinates. This is a
nice, level trail. You will also be passing a couple of other
nice caches. After about 0.4 miles you will come upon the
floating bridge. Here is where it gets tricky. Listen
closely and follow the directions exactly as stated.
When you arrive at the
bridge:
- Proceed across the bridge to the
13th post.
- Starting with the first
FULL plank (floor of bridge) after the 13th post,
count the number of planks to the deck hinge on the far
side.
- DO NOT count any plank that is
attached to the hinge. Only count up to the
hinge.
The number of planks =
ABC. As a field
check, A+B+C = 12.
Final Coordinates
are: N 36 30.DDD, W 082
37.EEE
where:
DDD = ABC + 6
EEE = ABC + 140
Final coordinates should be
roughly 0.3 miles from the bridge on mostly level ground.
Cache is a round, metal container about the size of a quart jar and
filled with hydro-themed swag. It is very near the road but
could be a challenge to find. Coordinates are accurate within
14 feet. Each cache also contains a
clue to the location of the final cache in the series (usually on
the inside of the lid). Don't forget to write it down or
conquer your fear a second time you must. Please
place back as good or better than you found it so that others can
have the same fear factor "experience".
