in our disclaimer.
Cache is located 25 minutes walk north of the top of Mt Grey North Canterbury
This is a sub-alpine cache requiring 4-6 hours hiking for the round / return trip. Official start point using DOC tracks is the Grey River Picnic Area west of Amberly. Enter Ashley Forest via Cramptons Bush Rd, Forest gate is often locked during high fire risk periods in summer.
CACHE SITUATED AT THE BASE OF A SMALL TREE A FEW METRES OFF THE TRACK.
When placed, contained usual note book, pencil & sharpener. A small compass & a cheap bangle.
Check your topo map before venturing out, other options exist for accessing the site, a 5 hour loop from the Grey River is the most "bush like". Anyone looking for a shorter route to the summit- be advised that the track between Lake Janet & the Fire Lookout is no longer maintained & is overgrown in places. Montain Bikers can climb the road but may have to leave bikes behind for the last descent to the cache, the return climb is un-ridable!
