Another historical cache location in Northern Greenville County in South Carolina with a bit of history. This cache is located at the junction of Berry Mill Rd and Hwy 14.
....The little bit of history: In 1820 John Weaver established a yarn mill at this site. Ownership changed several times over the years until about 1900, when Spartan Commodor Berry obtained it and tore down the old mill and rebuilt on the same foundation. He operated a Cotton Gin, Grist Mill, and a Saw Mill. In 1912 he and 2 sons(Broadus Carlyle & Claude Otis Berry) added a Flour Mill.
.....TWO large WATER WHEELS provided power. These were in turn powered by water from dams dating to 1784!
The Water Wheels can be seen from the marker location, or, by walking down to Berry Mill Rd and onto the bridge and looking up the creek. Note the teeth on the rim of the wheels that turned the shafts.
NOTE: If you go up Berry Mill Road 1/4 mile, You can turn left and you will see a monument for Berry Mill Fish Hatchery(now not in operation)(Established in 1935) and can drive down and see the fish ponds.
You are searching for a large pill bottle 5.5" tall and 2.5" across. It has room for small items. The cache is located very near the marker, hidden from casual view on the back side of a BIG rock.(hint) Please re-hide it well as there are a lot of people who visit here.
.....Watch out for Briars & Thorns, and possibly ticks.
