First Log
Cabin in Greenwood

Continuing my History
of Greenwood series, we now have Greenwood's first log
cabin.
Approximately 100'
north/northeast of the cache site is the historical marker for the
cabin.
The first log cabin
in Greenwood was built by John B. & Jane (Brewer) Smock about
1823. The first church meetings were held in this very same
cabin and were officiated by Rev. Isaac Reed. The original
members were: Garrett Brewer, John B. Smock, Isaac &
Rachel (Demaree) Smock, James & Charity (Brewer) Smock, Henry
& Mary Smock and Mary DeMotte Smock.
You'll now know the
location as Greenwood Park Mall. Now, it's a REALLY big
cabin.
Apologies for hiding
a bison tube here, but the immediate area couldn't support anything
larger.
