A very short uphill bush walk from carpark, a litle slippery when wet.
This is an offset cache. The actual cache location is in the Kauri Reserve, approx. 15 meters up from the sign, behind Petez mate 'Knobby'.
Would you have imagined such huge and long lived trees (the oldest living Kauri is estimated at 2,000 years), as the Kauri, have shallow root systems and are very susceptible to damage by trampling. So please do not walk in the area around kauri trees as this can kill them.
Just a little further on, the distinctive colour of fallen Kauri leaves often creates a luminous carpet of golden-orange under these young trees and along the track.
Please return along the same track or continue to the top to stroll down the road and round the block to the carpark. Watch children as there is a stream nearby and no footpath beside the road.
