Above the Mud Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

DewPoint52: The vegetation in this area was less dense than it was the last time I was here - not just because it's winter but because some of it is apparently gone due to natural forces (which in this area is mostly flooding). The log that allowed searchers to stay "above the mud" on the way to the cache was still there and there was a bush/tree at the end of the log similar to what the cache used to be in, but the bushes were much thinner. I'm not sure if the bush with the cache was knocked down/washed away or if the cache just fell out of the bush that's still there, but in any case I couldn't find the cache either. I think this is the seventh cache that either sub32 or I have had along this greenway that has disappeared for one reason or another and had enough issues to justify archiving in the last 5 years or so. For now at least I'm going to take that as a sign that this is not a good area for me to hide caches.

Geocache Description:

Bison tube just off a paved greenway

Last fall, I placed a small cache here named Upper Walnut Creek. The area was marginal for a cache on the ground at that time (due to being in the creek's floodplain) and a few heavy rains in the six months since then have altered the area and really made it unsuitable for a cache on the ground, so I replaced the small container with a bison tube a few feet away.

I thought about keeping it as the same cache, but then remembered a couple caches that I had found and was unable to help future searchers find because the container and location had changed since I found it.

To me, a different type of container hidden in a different way really seems like a different cache, so I decided to archive the old one and make this a new cache. (Good news for the 22 people that logged finds on Upper Walnut Creek - you can come find the new one and get another smiley!)

You're looking for a bison tube. You will need to go a short distance into the woods. If it's rained recently, the ground will likely be muddy and might even have some puddles, so you might want to wear old shoes. If you choose your approach carefully though, you might be able to stay "above the mud".
