Geocache Description:

This was one of our GeoCaching's team local ground, where he took us for walkies and for him to chase sticks. He told me that it is particularly good for dog walkers and for his fellow canines, who will find plenty of space to run around and chase those all important sticks! Hence he wanted 'Walkies' in the Cache name and who were we to argue! Sadly, this is now a memorial to him as he is no longer with us, but he'll be looking down watching you play sticks as you go around the common.

Hazleton Common Local Nature Reserve is located between the A3(M) and Hazleton housing estate. It follows the motorway south where it joins Waterlooville Golf Course and the Havant Borough boundary. Quote from Horndean Parish Council Website "Home to lizards, snakes, kestrels and dragonflies the common always has something lurking round the next corner if you know what to look for. On a bright day you need to be about early and approach quietly if you want to see snakes basking in the sun or lizards sunbathing on the sleeper boardwalk. The sun brings out the dragonflies too so check out the pond area for broad bodied chaser and emperor species. On your travels round listen out for a stonechat, a small bird which makes its home amongst the gorse, its call sounds like two pebbles tapped together, the common has a good breeding population".

Cache Details: Park at the co-ordinates listed above and be prepared to spend a good hour and a half following the trail below. The ground does get particulary muddy at certain times of year, so go well prepared. Note to canines: Paws may need washing off at end of walk. This is definately NOT a cache and dash, it is designed to show off the common and local footpaths and what can be found on your own doorstep. The only down side of the area is the noise from the motorway, but it is surprising how you forget about the noise when strolling around, or if you're busy caching or indeed chasing sticks!

The cache is a standard size brown ammo box under stickouflage, with the usual goodies, which may not be where you expect it to be!
