Geocache Description:

Cache is a small camo'd pill bottle with only a log hidden near a public parking lot. Should be a quick P&G. BYOP

This cache is hidden in an area that was once one of the busiest areas of Myrtle Beach. In 1977, Waccamaw Brick, which is about 4.5 miles northwest of this location, started Waccamaw Corporation, whose offices can be seen at the back of the main building northeast of the cache site. Waccamaw Corporation was a home furnishings business that built Waccamaw Pottery, a Myrtle Beach, South Carolina-based pottery company that sold pottery and crafts. Waccamaw Pottery was in front of the Waccamaw Corporation offices.

It grew into a home furnishings business in the early 1990s and operated stores throughout the South and Midwest, selling housewares, bedding, cookware, china, and furniture.

The corporation also built Waccamaw Pottery Outlet Stores which was comprised of Mall 1 at the south end of the main building and Malls 2 and 3 across the road. There was also a movie theater beside these malls.

In the face of heavy competition from Bed Bath & Beyond, Linens 'n Things and Old Time Pottery; as well as discount stores like Wal-Mart and Target, the company merged with Northeastern HomePlace and grew to over 100 stores by 2001. Waccamaw stores were renamed Waccamaw's HomePlace, and were planning to phase out the Waccamaw name altogether when the company filed for bankruptcy. The company ceased operations in June 2001.

The outlets then became Waccamaw Factory Stores, but eventually all the stores closed. The movie theater was torn down. All that remains of the corporation is what you see at the site.

There was also a fast food restaurant close to the cache that remained after everything else closed. This restaurant was successful until the stigma of a tragic murder on the premises caused it to close also.

Today the old Waccamaw Pottery building has been bought by a corporation that plans to convert it into a resort. Malls 2 and 3 of the old Waccamaw Factory Stores is now owned by Hard Rock Park Corporation. And the fast food restaurant is now a bar.

My how things change!

You will either need to know Spanish or have a translator to figure out the clue.

Congratulations FTF: Who do I give it to?
