A little history... The cache is located in Brookside Park, one of Cleveland’s oldest municipally owned parks. This park was created in 1894 and was renowned for both its beautiful pool and bath house and also for its well-maintained baseball field. Back in the early 20th century Brookside Park has an area of 153 acres, 1 3/8 miles of driveways and 3 ½ acres of water.

This park is also home of the Cleveland Zoo. Although much smaller in the early 1900’s it was extremely popular. In 1907 the Cleveland Press sponsored a “Pennies From Children” campaign to buy its first elephant. Minnie’s arrival was celebrated on July 27,1907 when 25,000 people came to see her. In 1993 the Cleveland Metroparks leased Brookside Park from the City of Cleveland for 99 years.

Thanks to the Cleveland Metroparks for approving this cache!
