Cache is placed on the verge of a farm track.
This is a very straightforward cache, it being my first and on my favourite dog walk. It is a 'cache and dash' though longer walks can be incorporated round it as there are many public footpaths and it is just off the Stonehenge Walk. The cache can be done in conjunction with the well established Ham Hatches micro cache which is under half a mile away. There are pleasant views all round the cache site, of Amesbury and Salisbury Plain. I call the part of the path that the cache is on 'windy ridge' because there is always at least a breeze, generally at least windy and on occasions gale force, and makes me aware of the elements.
There are several routes to the cache and I recommend two. The first is from Viney's Farm, the entrance being approached from A345 before the Amesbury signpost. There is space to park the car [making sure that the gate isn't blocked. The track is through the gate and onto a farm track. I have seen deer, rabbits and hare through the years of walking the track and heard the first cuckoo and woodpeckers.
The second route can start from Amesbury Recreation Ground car park which is listed in the details for Ham Hatches. The grid reference is N51 10.161 W001 47.247. The route will take you over the Hatches and towards two cottages. You need to pass the cottages on your way up the hill. The route is straightforward from then.
The cache is a 35mm film container conplete with log book and pencil.
