This 5-stage urban/woods mix-up is almost all parking lot, and stages are easily reached by car. Drive slowly and safely, and always wear a seat belt and keep the kids buckled no matter how short the trip.
The final stage is hidden deeply in "The Forgotten Forest" - a sliver of untouched greenery nestled majestically between those on the way and those already there. Millions of people will pass it closely by. But somehow, few have ever treaded here. And by some strange paradox of progress, few - but you - will ever tread here again.
As you approach the prize, take a moment to consider how this land was spared and walk gently in the footsteps of those few before you. Indians were here, as later were brothers on opposite sides of a Civil War. Perhaps if it weren't for the years of fallen leaves, you'd uncover something left behind right out in the open.
When you finally become privy to its real location, it's best to enter from this very place. Slow-moving traffic will meander nearby, as will well-intentioned – but very bored – sentries. Have your “collecting pine cones” excuses ready. Time your entrance wisely, then slip quickly into the cover of the trees.
