Geocache Description:

This story was told to me by an ole friend …. Claude McKenny…. He was serving as under Sheriff when the “RED RIVER PLUNGE” (GC17Y3B)
took place…..
You can check the historical marker @ (visit link)
It’s not right but kinda close…. Contact me for the rest of that
story….

NOW FOR THE END OF THIS STORY: The Collingsworth Sheriff
and the Wellington's Chief of Police responded to the call….
J.W.Jones and Clyde Borrow heard them coming and set an ambush….
Bonnie was burnt from the battery acid ( Maybe hot water too? )…. They took the sheriff’s
car a brand new 1933 Chevy Sedan…. The two men in the front,, and
the two officers in the back,, then Bonnie was layed across them….

They had plans to meet Buck and Blanche (Clyde’s brother and
sister-in-law)at the Oklahoma state line….. Buck wanted to kill the
officers…. But Clyde said: "“No…. "I’ve grown fawn of them and
they've did take good care of Bonnie…”" It was about 2 miles out of
Erick when the Chevy through the rods (running at high speeds)….

They stripped the officers
to there skevvies and tied them to a big tree with barbwire…. The
went into town and stopped to get gas and told the attendant where the officers were….
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This was all I was told??? .
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It appears that
they robbed an armmry and replinished ther arms and amo..... Gang took off to Fort Smith Arkansas,,, in Buck's car....
Buck died just 15 days later and is buried in north West Dallas with his wife and brother…..

Clyde died a year later with Bonnie in Northern
Louisiana when they were ambushed and their vehicle was shot full of bullet holes and they were killed..

Bonnie is buried about
twenty miles away on the north east Corner of Dallas.

Another twist: I saw the letter that Clyde wrote to Mr. George…. I’ll try to quote: “The next time I come through Collingsworth Co. I want
the Sheriff’s Department. to be driving a Ford….” Written on a
typewriter…. That was Clyde’s way….

Story by myfredy aka Fred Peters. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
AFTER SOME RESEARCH I FOUND THAT I WAS IN THE DARK ABOUT THIS TIME IN OUR TEXAS/OKLAHOMA HISTORY….THIS WAS A NO MAN’S LAND WHICH WAS LATER IN JACKSON HOLE, WY (visit link)

WE HAD SOME SPECIAL HISTORY THAT MOST OF THE STATE DON’T KNOW OR UNDERSTAND… I DOSE NOT MATTER IF YOU ARE ON THE OKLAHOMA SIDE OR THE TEXAS SIDE THERE ARE STILL GREAT STORIES/LESSON…

IT APPEARS THAT THE TWO STATES (TX &OK) HAVE TRIED TO INCREASE THERE LAND HOLDINGS…. [SEE MAPS] THIS STARTED WHEN TEXAS BECAME A NATION…. HOWEVER IT DIDN’T GO TO COURT UNTIL OKLAHOMA BECAME A STATE AND THE FEDERAL GOV. WANTED THE LAND FOR INDIAN NATIONS,, ABOUT 1822-1914…. THEN IN 1907 OKLAHOMA BECAME A STATE…. FULLED WITH NATIONS OF NATIVE AMERICANS….

IF I UNDERSTAND IT RIGHT TEXAS ASSUMED THE IT’S BORDER WERE TO REMAIN AS THE SPANISH HAD DRAWN THEM… [SEE MAP A] HOWEVER THE U.S. TOOK MOST OF THE NORTHERN PART OF TEXAS WHEN THEY WERE ADMITTED IN 1945 AND BASICALLY CUT OFF THE TOPS OF LOUISIANA (PART OF THE PURCHASE) AND TEXAS… LEAVING TEXAS WITH A PANHANDLE….
JUST AFTER THE WAR OF AGGRETION (abt. 1867)A CONGRESSMAN WROTE A LAW ABD THE PANHANDLE WAS CUT OFF OF TEXAS AS A PORK BARRELL RIDER AND GIVEN TO OKLAHOMA????

THE LAND DISPUTE WAS ABOUT THE NORTHERN BOARDS… (abt 1935)

OKLAHOMA WANTED PEASE RIVER ESTABLISHED AS THERE SOUTHERN BORDER (WHICH RUNS JUST NORTH OF PADUCAH, TX).. (visit link)

SO TEXAS SAID THEY WANTED THE NORTH FORK OF THE RED (JUST NORTH OF SHAMROCK, TX..)…[SEE MAP B]

AS THE FIGHT ESCALATED OKLAHOMA THAN ASK FOR THE 101st (WEST THE OTHER SIDE OF CLAREDON, TX.)…

TEXAS ASK FOR THE 99th (EAST OF MAGNUM, OK)…

THEN OKLAHOMA ASK FOR THE 102nd (WEST OF CANYON, TX.)…

AND TEXAS ASK FOR THE 98th… (EAST OF ANADARLO, OK)
THE BIG COMPROMISE…

OR AS WE TEXANS SAID: “STEALING OF OUR LAND” resulted in the loss from Texas to what is now Oklahoma of 1,511,576 acres.

IN 1927 IT WAS TAKEN BEFORE THE U.S. SUPREME COURT AND THE PRESENT BOUNDARY WAS ESTABLISHED…I’M NOT SURE THAT I’VE GOT IT ALL RIGHT YET,, MAY NEED A LAWYER????

THERE WAS A 3rd COURT MEETING IN 1989 BUT THE BOUNDRY DIDN’T CHANGE…

. { I THINK OKLAHOMA JUST WANTED THE COTTONBOWL AND COWBOYS TO BE ADDED TO OKLAHOMA????} JUST KIDDIN…..

…. I REMEMBER A MENTION OF THE TEXAS DISPUTE IN 7th GRADE TEXAS HISTORY CLASS…

I STARTED MY FIRST CACHE WITH “NO MANS LAND SOUTH” (GC17RYG ) AS I THOUGHT ABOUT IT… I DECIDED IT WOULD BE NICE TO SET UP THE SERIES TO SHARE THIS EXPERIENCE…

. AS WE DROVE DOWN THE 100th MERIDIAN WE FOUND A TYPE OF BENCH MARK THAT WAS ISSUED BY THE SUPREM COURT IN 1927… I WILL CONTACT WAYPOINT AND SEE IF WE CAN SET THEM UP TOO???

MY GPS INDICATED THAT THEY WERE PLACED @ 100. 00.024 ABOUT 1 (ONE) MILES APART… THX FOR YOUR HELP…. L8R FREDY
