Norma Jean Memorial Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

lasermom: It's a shame to archive this fun historic spot but I'm unable to find and maintain a suitable cache here. I'm archiving hoping someone else can put one in the area.

Geocache Description:

While visiting this memorial to gain information needed to find a nearby letterbox I decided to plant a micro here. You can drive right up to the 12 foot limestone memorial to Norma Jean, a 6,500 lb. elephant who was struck by lightning and buried on this spot on June 17, l972.

Her trainer, "Possum Red," was thrown by the lightning bolt but survived. Without an elephant, the Clark & Walters Circus was forced to go out of business in one year. There is a display case with several pictures and articles of the event. This city park also has a nice municipal swimming pool.
