Geocache Description:

Pine City won the battle.

Prior to the organization of the Minnesota Territory in 1849, the area that was to finally become Pine County was included within the limits of St Croix County Wisconsin. In 1852, it was put within the limits of Chisago County MN.
Pine County was established as an independent county on
March 31, 1856. It included the area of present day Carlton, Kanabec and Pine Counties. The now abandon Chengwatana Village (located where the Snake River leaves Cross Lake) was the first white settlement, original county seat and court house.
Pine County was finally organized within its current boundaries in 1872. The county seat was moved by popular vote from Chengwatana Village to Pine City because of the Lake Superior and Mississippi Railroad being built through Pine City in 1870. Chengwatana Village died out.

Ever since 1872, there have been attempts to move the County seat to Hinckley and even change the county name from Pine to Clover.
The residents voted again and decided on the building of this new Courthouse and Law Enforcement Center, which opened November 2007, on the North side of Pine City.

The public lobby entrance to the Law Enforcement Center is located on the NW corner. It is open 24/7 and has drinking fountains and restrooms.
There is ample public parking on the North and East sides, along with a nice grassy area, picnic tables, and a mowed walking trail around a pond to the North.

Find a Lg peanut butter jar.
