A lovely walk following an enclosed bridleway and then across pasture to the top of Slwch Tump, a 246m high Iron Age hill fort immediately north of Brecon. From the top there are fantastic views over the town, Pen-y-Fan and the Brecon Beacons to the south, Pen-y-Crug (another hill fort) to the west and on a good day Hay Bluff and the Sugar Loaf to the east.
Slwch Tump can be accessed in several ways but the recommended one is off the B4602 (Cerrigcochion Road) via Slwch Lane bridleway, just to the north of the hospital at N51.56.997 W003.23.055. The most direct path to the cache is through the gate ahead where the bridle way bends to the left. Alternatively, carry on up the bridle way, passing a TV mast, until you reach the next stile and then cross sheep pasture. This will take you to the very top of the hill fort, where there are views all round. Car parking is available in the town car parks (pay and display), on local residential roads or at the Leisure Centre (N51.57.213 W003.22.824) just up the hill from the hospital (free). The town of Brecon contains the normal facilities for eating, drinking and shopping. This geocache is featured in the Brecon Beacons National Park leaflet "Car free days out - Caches & Co-ordinates".
