A small cache hidden near a folly
The Temple of Theseus. Is a miniature version of a Greek Doric temple, (considered to be the most important monument of its type in Europe.) This was a folly built around the same time as the obelisk, in 1758, also by Lord Lyttleton. There is a plaque in the temple, which reads:-
This building was designed by James (Athenian) Stuart in 1758 for the 1st Lord Lyttleton, to be an eye catcher from Hagley Hall, and to provide a place from which to view the Malvern Hills. It is a miniature version of a 6th century B.C. temple in Athens, popularly known as the Theseian, which Stuart himself had visited and measured. It is the first building in modern times to have been directly copied from an Ancient Greek original and the first building anywhere outside Greece and her colonies in which the Greek Doric order is correctly used. The temple is in a seriously dilapidated condition. It is a listed building on private land and permanently fenced off to the public.
The cache is a small clip lock container hidden near by.
