However ...
However, the name of the University mascot is Testudo who shares
the name with a family of old-world tortoises. To further the
confusion, the University has been marketing a slogan telling the
reader to be afraid of "the turtle". Terrapin? Tortoise? Turtle?
All three at once? You decide.
Cache Container and Contents
The cache container is a camouflaged 250mL Nalgene bottle with a
43mm mouth. This makes it somewhere between a small and a micro.
Only very small trade items will fit in this container.
Furthermore, although a Travel Bug dog tag will fit through the
mouth, only the smallest traveling items will fit in the cache. For
instance, only smaller geocoins will fit in the mouth of the cache.
The initial contents are the following things:
- Log sheet -- only name and date, please. There isn't room for a
real log book in here.
- Ball point pen. However, there is room for a real pen.
- Two rubber balls, one pink, one blue.
- One yellow "Colonel Mustard" Matchbox-type CJ-7 Jeep.
- FTF prize: LED keychain light.
It might take some work to get some of the items out.
The Place
The cache is hidden in a little-used part of the campus. The
tornado
of 2001 went through here, in part. As far as I can tell, this
is the only part of campus that still bears the scars from that
day. You can see mature trees here uprooted and broken in half by
the ferocity of the storm that day.
Two sisters were killed during that storm by the main funnel on
another part of campus when their car was picked up, lifted over an
eight story dormitory, then dropped on the other side. I think the
attacks of September 11th were too fresh in my mind when this
happened, and I wasn't ready to deal with it. Reading about the
tornado to write this cache blurb made me sad in a way that didn't
sink in at the time of the tragedy.
Parking
The parking garage near the Comcast center is open between 4pm
and 7am on weekdays and all day on weekends. Excepting, of course,
when games are being held at the center.
