This is at the top of the Sandia's not far from the crest observation parking lots area. From reading a few of the posts it's obvious getting this cache made a few folks nervous. I found it a piece of cake when I placed it on a very windy spring day. The cache is now an ammo box loaded with new stuff. There is a log book and a pen along with some pretty neat stuff I placed in there.
You have to start down the north Crest Spur Trail(I always considered this the top of the La Luz Trail) which begins near the southwest end of the Crest Observation Parking lots. At the very first switchback(there is a trail sign log sticking out of the ground) get off the trail and head north along the cliff area. All coordinates listed below.
I included a couple pictures with the listing. One is the view taken right from where the cache is and a picture of the sign post I mentioned when you have to get off the trail and head north. My GPSmap 60CSx says it is at 10528 feet.
Back in the late 80's I camped out not too far from here a number of times. Easy access and I really enjoyed it. Why did I call it "Ode to Frank Zappa"? Simple. Just before I stashed the cache I had been listening to some tracks from the late Frank Zappa's album "Joe's Garage" on my MP3 player. It was such a beautiful view I thought to myself a guy like Zappa would have probably been honored to have some of his ashes placed here after he bit the big one.
