According to local legend, over 200 years ago that ruthless Pirate
of the Chesapeake, Captain Graybeard, sailed up the Potomac River
intending to raid the then young city of Washington D.C. But after
spotting the watering holes, nightspots, and spirits houses in
nearby Georgetown, the Captain and his scurvy crew decided that
would make a juicier target. So they docked near what is now the
Key Bridge and commenced ransacking, plundering, ravaging,
pillaging, looting, debauching, and drinking their way through
Georgetown. Well, actually, they mostly were drinking their way
with perhaps a little bit of looting on the side. By dawn they
realized they had to quickly depart or be jailed, so they cast off
after the Captain told the helmsman to turn to port and set sail.
The helmsman, however, was a bit dyslexic (and not to mention 3
sheets to the wind) and so he turned to starboard instead. Many
hours later the intrepid Captain awoke with a ferocious hangover
and suddenly realized they had somehow sailed up above Seneca
Rocks, and the authorities were in hot pursuit right behind them!
Deciding he had better get rid of the incriminating booty, our good
Captain stopped briefly on a nearby island to hide his treasure in
a nalgene chest before escaping. After hiding the loot, the ship
then sailed up the Potomac and was never seen again. If you are
fearless enough, you may be able to find Captain Graybeard’s
hidden treasure. The Captain docked at the northwest tip of the
island (coords below), and it is strongly suggested you follow his
lead. Congratulations to TheBlueDog on being FTF!
