Geocache Description:

In Silver Lake. Not difficult at all, but the terrain could be considered a bit steep. Log only, please bring your own pen.

This is the first of what I hope to be a series of caches around the Silver Lake and Echo Park Stairs. This set of stairs continues the street Marathon, thus the name of the cache.

Back when the area was first being developed, the main mode of transportation for people was not the automobile, but the Red Car and other public transportation. The city of Los Angeles built stairs to facilitate getting out to the main traffic corridors. Silver Lake and Echo Park are pretty hilly, and this made quick work of the terrain. Most of these stairs still exist and are in pretty good condition. Some of the stairs even have houses off of them with no street access. They are hidden gems of the city, and my goal is to bring them to you. Welcome to my gym!
