Another of The Peat Lakes, Just out of Hamilton city limits, easy terrain
Lake Kainui ( Lake D on some maps ) is another in our Waikato Peat Lakes series It is just located outside Hamilton City Northern boundary. This is a relatively easy walk but may be a bit trickier in Duck Shooting season which commences on the 1st weekend in May each year. From the road this lake does not look too big but there is a walking track around the entire lake. There is one public toilet and picnic tables scattered throughout the track. It is well formed. The sign says 2 Km walk but when we did the walk it appeared to be nearer 3.5kms !! Estimated time to complete is 1 Hr. Note quite a few Maimais on route. You can do this on a bicycle and I would say a Kayak might be possible as well.
