SLCC - ELS - The Lab Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Lurpyman: It has been fun hosting a 1/1 cache at the Salt Lake Community College child care facility. For several years, the grounds crew would clean the area and leave the cache alone. For the past two years they have thrown away the cache when they were pruning, trimming and cleaning the grounds. I hate to say goodbye to this cache, but it looks like the time has arrived.

Geocache Description:

Due to its location, many people do not realize that the George S. and Delores Dore Eccles Lab School (ELS) is a part of Salt Lake Community College. The ELS is the campus child care center and also the headquarters of the education department.

We were suprised to discover that one of the children in the three-year-old class was a geocacher. In honor of him and his class, we took the container into their classroom and explained caching to the group. We then had all of them sign the log book.

The cache is a true 1/1 cache. It is wheelchair accessible. It is a large white plastic bottle that has both the SLCC and the Geocaching logos on it. If you have a young child or a "newbie" cacher with you, please let them find it first. You may wonder why we have not placed any swag in the large container. That's easy. If the preschoolers in our center believed that there were new toys and treasures in the bottle every day, there is a pretty good chance that they would insist that their parents let them explore the contents every time they walked by the bottle. To eliminate that potential problem, we have only placed a pen and a log book in the container.

We plan to use the cache as a launching point for travel bugs. We will look at them, photograph them and then track their travels around the valley and throughout the country.

This cache has been placed with permission of the college administration and the campus police. There is 15-minute parking immediately in front of the building. Everyone in the ELS is aware of the cache, so there is no need to be shy or stealthy.

The hint will tell you exactly where to find the cache. Don't use it unless you really need it.

A special thanks goes to Tweet, who had a cache that was located near the ELS. He kindly agreed to move his cache a little further to the south so that we could place this cache.
