Saturday Night, Sunday Morning. Traditional Cache
The Strangler: Checked on the 22.12.24. Sadly the cache has gone. I no longer live in Birmingham and maintaining my first and last remaining active cache is very difficult. My apologies to those who have not been able to find it. I'm sad to have to archive this. Hopefully, new caches will one day appear somewhere but for now I have to say goodbye. It was fun.

The first of many caches to celebrate the band that inspired my Geocaching name. Well, you didn't think I am a real Strangler did you?
Hugh Cornwell left the Stranglers in August 1990, following a concert at the Alexandra Palace in London, England. This move came as a complete surprise to everyone involved with the band (including the remaining three members). It also came as a complete surprise to me. I got married on that very weekend and as a kind gesture to the future Mrs. Strangler I decided to miss out on this one gig to allow us to get married and go on a honeymoon to the warmth of the Canary Islands. Imagine my dismay on return from said honeymoon to hear the news that I would never see him play with the band again. Mrs Strangler is never allowed to forget this! (It's also her Birthday so I am never allowed to forget that!)
The Stranglers quickly took stock of their future and replaced Hugh with two new members. Hugh meanwhile went his own way and formed a partnership with Roger Cook and Andy West. According to the official website for Roger Cook this happened on Thursday May 7th 1992. However they played at The Breedon Bar on the 28th March 1991. They became known as CCW and went on to record a CD. Hugh later went on to a succesful solo career and is still touring and recording. As a performer Roger Cook maybe best remembered as a member of Blue Mink, sharing lead vocals with Madeline Bell. Andy West is now Course Director, MA Songwriting. School of Music and Performing Arts at Bath Spa University.
This cache celebrates the first time I had seen Hugh outside of a Stranglers gig. The gig was well attended by a lot of Stranglers fans and was also previewed on an entertainments show on the former Central TV, now known as ITV Central. I also got to meet the great man himself after the gig and this is now a regular occurence at most of his gigs I attend. The cache also celebrates The Breedon Bar as one of the best pub gig venues in the Midlands. The likes of Steve Gibbons and Andy Scott ex Sweet have played there. In recent years another venue nearby, The Roadhouse has supplemented the loss.
The Breedon Bar closed in 1994, caught fire in 1995, was demolished in early 2003 and has been redeveloped as affordable housing. For this reason the cache has been placed not far from the site but within plain view. Parking is available near to the cache site and there is also a small carpark nearby that can be used although this is done entirely at your own risk as it is primarily for visitors to the units there.
This is my first cache placement so I make no apologies for it being a micro. I do however intend to place some traditional caches containing Stranglers related goodies.
Cache is easily accessible, 24/7. Reasonably wheelchair friendly but may require assistance to retreive. Beware muggle traffic especially at weekends!!
