This cache was placed on one of our annual rafting trips on the
Owyhee River in South Eastern Oregon. This is an unbelievably
beautiful and uninhabited corner of the United States. If you just
saw the pictures and weren't told where they were taken, you would
likely assume that they are from Arizona or New Mexico. The five
star terrain rating is based on the remotness of the area and the
fact that you will likely need a raft or kayak to get to this one.
There is also a significant hike from the river to the cache
site.
This cache was placed at one of my favorite sights along the river.
This is on top of a formation called "Pruitt's Castle." You will be
looking over a place called "Chalk Basin." Chalk Basin could very
well be a national monument or part of a national park.
The 3.5 Difficulty rating is based on the routfinding that you will
need to get to the cache site. You do not need to do anything death
defying to get to the cache. You will want to follow the wash on
the upstream side of Pruitt's Castle until you reach the rock wall
that forms the end of the canyon. Pass the wall on the right and
then work your way to the cache site via rudimentary trails.
