Geocache Description:

On top of viewpoint overlooking the Phalaborwa mines & Kruger Park. NOTE: I suspect that this cache was muggled by wild baboons. Could the next GEOCACHER please replace the whole cache for me? A smallih plastic container hidden underneath the biggest rock will do the trick. Also, a plastic bag to place the cache in would be a good idea. Thank you so much, and enjoy the view! (I will not be in Phalaborwa for the next month to do it myself)

Near the weather station, close to the gate. Plastic box with blue lid. Contains a logbook, and small adaptor from 12v car batery to cigarette lighter plug.
This hill was was manmade in 1950. It used to be a hillock called "LOOLEKOP", where the big hole is now. They moved the koppie with very small lorrys, 28 tons at a time. Nowadays their lorries carry 294 tons each.

A great view over the mine, and Phalaborwa. Many moons ago, the big hole was a vulcanic pipe, filled with mainly copper and phosphate. It is one of 3 large pipes around Phallies, and is called the Phalaborwa Complex. All the small hills you see around, are sideshoots from this big pipe.

Stop off at the little veranda on the way up and see the big hole. We here from Phalaborwa always say: "Kimberley se gat se gat." You will see what we mean. The hole is 1,8km wide, and a kilo deep. Enjoy!
