This cache is situated on the edge of Eccup reservoir at a site reputedly good for seeing Red Kites(you'll see when you get there).[STOP PRESS-the cache has been resited about 6ft away from its original position as the sign announcing the Red Kite viewing area,to which the cache was attached, has now been removed] However ,in the past few years, while I have been running/walking/cycling this area on a regular basis ,I have never seen a Red Kite at this spot.If you really want to see them, you are better off heading past the "Eccup Waterworks" cache towards an area known as Swan Bushes ,or deeper into the Harewood Estate, where sightings are much more likely. They are very graceful in their swooping flight, and the colours are striking
Since writing the original cache page, numbers have increased, and sightings here are much more common,as well as further afield from the Harewood estate. Lately,I have had reason to travel down the M40 a couple of times, and have seen quite a few at the bottom end ,just before the M25.
The cache itself is a bison, with only a log and no writing implement,so bring your own. You will have to unscrew the bottom half to get at the log. Please do not try to detach the whole container.
