Geocache Description:

Near the parking lot, you will see a series of what appears to be water well heads. These are wells, but not the drinking water type. It seems about 35 million years ago, a big rock fell out of the sky and landed in what is now The Chesapeake Bay. The impact sent a plume of water, silt, mud and debris thousands of feet into the air, which eventually fell back to earth. IN 2001, the USGS drilled these wells to take core samples of soil, to see if we are being slowly contaminated by drinking well water. See related link for the whole story. (visit link)
